is it strange if shelves make me extremely happy?
Well, to set the stage, let me show you what the dark corner of our dining area looked like before we gave it some attention:
Yes, this is pre-cleaning as well… pretty bad, I tell you.
My dresser was crying out for some TLC…
So, I took a trip to IKEA and purchased two of their floating LACK shelves (for $19.99 each), and we put them up.
I wanted to make the space not only visually pleasing, but also personal… here are some of the pieces I decided to include: first up, a picture of my hubby & I when we were dating (seems like ages ago)
My little man’s santa photo where he’s braving his tear-soaked face for the camera, and my gold spray painted ornament that looks kind of sea urchin-ish…
an ampersand & vintage tea tin, both of which are thrift store finds…
and a lovely mirror frame (found at a thrift store for $1.99! woohoo!) with our Christmas card in it. It’s sitting on a box from IKEA which holds odds & ends that end up cluttering the space.
I’m going to change this top shelf arrangement, but it’ll do for now…
(I can at least showcase my babe’s newborn photos for the time being). It sits beside the wooden mama & baby giraffe my hubby & I bought from South Africa on our honeymoon/missions trip. It is one of our favourite pieces.
Those shelves are still works in progress, but it’s definitely nicer than the bare wall!
It definitely makes that space a lot more interesting… and I had no idea there was a technique to making shelves look nice (which I obviously haven’t mastered yet, but I’m learning slowly in the school of Pinterest!;)
Hope your hump day is a great one!
a week left until Christmas… crazy! :)
