Happy Wednesday!
A reminder that in TWO days the BIG Christmas link party is a’happenin’ here! I can’t wait to see what amazing stuff you’ve been working on!
Let’s continue on with the Christmas crafting: I know we’ve seen these keepsake baby print things everywhere! However, I thought I’d add a special little touch to this well-known ornament, and break it out for our little guy’s first Christmas.
I bought a keepsake kit before the baby came out, knowing I’d jump on the bandwagon & forever fawn over how tiny my babe’s digits used to be…
When he was exactly two weeks old, I thought I’d muster up enough energy to crack the package open, and give it a go.
I ended up rolling the dough out, and not making one ginormous print keepsake, but getting 4 outta the box! woo! More sentimental bang for my buck. ;)
I gathered the following materials (I ended up changing the ribbon, though, and brought out the little guy’s hospital wrist and ankle bands.. sniff. so tiny).
I wanted to showcase the hospital bands in a neat way (and considered framing them like I’ve seen so often on Pinterest), but I thought this was different & would be perfect beside his tiny hand & foot prints.
So, I thought I’d use them as an accessory on the ornament; I started off by glueing the edges where they were cut with scissors:
I used a bit of hot glue, and held them in place until it dried.
Then, using the long piece, I tucked it under the buckle,
and glued that in place, creating a little loop.
like so:
Then using some twine (which I thought looked a little nicer than the thicker ribbon that bunched a bit), I fished it through the loop so the tiny wrist band could hang beside the hand print.
Here they are complete… sigh.
And on the tree, they look perfect:
I decided to stick to a simpler tree this year (unlike my usual fancy tree), and have our sentimental ornaments showcased (like our pottery barn statue of liberty to represent our engagement in NYC, to the house ornaments to represent our houses, even to the cute little guy at the bottom, which happened to be the ornament my husband had when he was a baby).
These baby print ornaments are a perfect addition to the collection of most significant moments in our lives as a couple thus far (and so far, it’s kicking the other moments’ butts for being the most awesome blessing yet!)
…and that is why these ornaments and the tree are safely tucked far away behind a baby gate (I’ve already had his little hand reach in, grab a branch, and drag the whole tree over for him to get a closer look!)
’tis the season to be guarding-the-tree-from-wild-pudgy-fingers!
Have a wonderful day~
