If you’re impatient like me, and eat junk food any which way, this recipe is just what the doctor ordered! (but not the dentist… unless he loves scraping deliciously creamy caramel off your teeth until he’s blue in the face!)
I am secretly addicted to caramel apples. Especially the kind coated in crunchy bits of hard toffee. I even contemplated ordering an $11 gourmet apple that I tried once, and had to talk myself out of it (I could just hear my mom saying things like, ‘I’ll buy you 5 bags of apples for that price!’… sigh, gotta love bargain-lovin’ mamas).
Instead of ‘breaking the bank’, I saw this recipe on the back of a box of Cadbury Hallowe’en chocolates, and decided to try it.
All you need is a chocolate bar (I used ‘Skor’, which is just hard toffee covered in chocolate), and chop it up:
All you need to do:
1. Cover large plate with wax paper & insert wooden sticks into stems of apples
2. Microwave caramels & water in a large microwaveable container on HIGH for 2-1.5 minutes or until sauce is smooth when stirred; cool slightly.
3. Dip apples, 1 at a time, into sauce, turning until apple is coated evenly, letting excess drip off.
4. Dip coated apples into chopped candy pieces & place them onto wax paper. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
