another use for a magazine rack

Happy Monday! (well, maybe bittersweet Monday as it is the last monday before school officially begins and I have to peel myself off the couch).

I bring a really simple DIY that I actually completed about a year ago, but haven't posted until now. Why? Well, I didn't really know what to do with it.
Let me explain.

One day I came across this simple magazine rack in the local Goodwill. Nothing special, but it did have the bamboo frame that tends to make my heart skip a beat. For less than $5, it was mine.

Now, I knew I didn't want to use it for magazines because I just hate it when they all flop over and have a forever-crease (am I alone in this?), so I decided with a coat of spray paint, it could function as something entirely different.

a book holder? a cool candle holder for a fake fireplace? a log holder for our non-existent fireplace?
no.no.no.

Voila.
An alternative to having-to-run-sopping-wet-down-the-hallway-nervously-peering-behind-corners-lest-someone-sees-you-and-your-privates.

Or rather, seeing as these are just face towels, more appropriately, just a great towel holder in the bathroom :)

And another cool thing about using this rack for towels is that it's elevated above the floor so if there are any puddles, you don't have a wet towel to dry with (don't you hate that? Or am I alone in that too?)

some happy news

...imagine a greasy-haired, pj-donning girl with guilty head lowered and foot shuffling the floor.

that pitiful picture is me, friends.

I have some explaining (and blogging) to do, and although I've been competing for Gold as the crustiest recluse as of late, let me begin with some news that might enlighten you on why I've fallen off the face of the planet...

Good News #1:
Several months ago I was contacted by an editor at Woman's Day, asking if they could use one of my diy projects (the wood shim sunburst mirror) in a new column.

They said they would recreate my mirror, and add their own creative flare.
It is featured in the September issue (out on newsstands now)!

My proud pup beside the issue.
Their mirror was a serious funky step up from my gold version.

They also added a little blurb about my husband and I (which I thought was great), and I'm pretty sure a little bit of colour was added to my pasty face (double great!)

Okay, that was exciting news, but I've saved the best for last. The biggest reason for being MIA is:

Good News #2:
I found out that my husband, fur baby, and I are expecting a bundle of joy in the near future!

Although I had images of what it would be like to be pregnant (i.e. glowing and forever caressing Gap Baby wares), they were quickly dashed to the ground. I have never felt more sick in my entire life... let's just say I think Snooki handled it with more class and poise than I did.
This will explain my previous attractive picture of refusing to see the light of day if it meant unravelling myself out of the fetal position. Regardless of looking and feeling like a hot mess, we couldn't be more excited (and a tad nervous) for what lies ahead...
I'm thankful that the sickness is getting better, and that I can start crafting again! (do I hear Nursery Room before and aft? :)

A life of spanx and cheerios in tupperware, here I come! ;)
