West Elm-inspired Art

Over the years of dating, being engaged and eventually getting married, my husband and I have always enjoyed theatre.

The first thing that caught my eye about him (as geeky as this is) was that he could quote Shakespeare like it was nobody's business. Like, seriously. WHO quotes Shakespeare these days?
We even had a Shakespeare/theatre wedding theme (without the pouffy hair/dresses).

I came across this neat West Elm ticket wall art & thought this idea would be really easy to re-create and could be personalized quite easily. The West Elm version has pictures of tag-like tickets, but I decided to use tickets from our past dates.

don't mind the crazy colours

We had some ticket stubs left over from previous plays (I regretfully threw away stubs from our trips to Africa & Korea). boo.

With a frame ($2) and matting ($1) from the dollar store,

I had to customize the size of the matting and did so by first measuring a 2 cm width away from the edges and cutting with a ruler, an Exacto knife, and cork board.

Not exactly the best way to get smooth corners, but it'll do.

I then played around with the arrangement on a piece of card stock I had on hand...

When I found one I liked, I taped the to the card stock, and I had myself a cheap West Elm knock-off.

West Elm's version: $40.67
My version: $3

I think I win.

A nice sentimental gift for V-day and a not-too-girly gift, perfect for his man cave.

Hope you had a wonderful 'hump' day! :)

  1. What a great idea! I've saved lots of ticket stubs and this is the perfect solution to keeping them in a shoebox!

  4. What a cool idea! I too have saved years' worth of ticket stubs since it helps me remember movies and plays I've seen, but they're just thrown into a box...this is definitely on my to-do list now.
