I managed to find a whole container of corks for free off CL (at this point my hubby was convinced I was a hoarder).
As I never acquired a taste for wine (aaand wasted a wine tour in Tuscany by munching only on the free bread), corks were never readily available in our house & I've been dying to try some crafts with them!
I was especially interested in the mushroom-shaped corks, even though I didn't have a clue of what to do with them.
some of my favourites (I may not be a connoisseur of wine, but a connoisseur of corks? why not?!) ;)
using screw eyes and fancy-pants paint from the dollar store, ;)
I started with the cork with the fleur de lis (it was my inspiration for the character)
and I globbed on the paint on a piece of card stock. This was ghetto, but I was lovin' the flash back to art class in grade school!
I started with my base (my nails need a'trimmin'!)
and the little man...
started taking form.
This is where the fleur de lis comes into play: my hubby has been using an app to learn French & being lonely in the process, he asked me to learn French too (saying if and when I learned, he would take me to France! Sign me up!)
So, I decided to make him a key chain with a lil' version of his French-wannabe self (glasses and all... and I even used France's flag colours). ;)
With a glossy coat of Varathane, it was protected and it had a bit more sheen.
I also made another key chain for my friend's son (who is a huge fan) of the all too familiar bombshell.
She's flying with super-sonic speed... as evidenced by the blue rays behind her... ;)
Don't mess with this chick.

I used this picture as my inspiration and well, tried my best :)
This was such an easy craft idea and it was super fun (It's very kid-friendly as well). Probably the most difficult part was the finer lines I had to paint with a thin paintbrush.
and their bottoms.
Happy thursday!

Haha these are SO cute! One of my instructors took all of her corks (we're talking hundreds!) and made a HUGE cork board for her office. Some of the corks are coloured and added a nice pop!
