I've been secretly doing happy dances and giggling like it's nobody's business.
Why, you ask?
Some hints to whet the appetite...
Welllll, I've been on the lookout for campaign furniture for awhile now.
I just love the look of the brassy hardware, with the crisp classic lines. I've seen them in a wide array of skittle-licious colours & have been yearning for one of my own (especially since we have a huge expanse of space in our living room which only gets action during the holidays when the Christmas tree sits there).
Well, after much scouring of CL, I found the most perfect candidate! (excuse the terrible iphone pic)
enter: credenza that is not technically campaign furniture, but has similar features (just missing the gold edging).
It is a Kroehler, which was locally made (in Stoney Creek, for all you Torontonians) & pure solid wood. This girl had some good bones!
the drawer pulls were my favourite! so prettttty!
AND, *drum roll*
it was Free!
it was Free!
yes, you read right, the credenza was free off CL
(and the person was just 5 minutes from our house, so gas wasn't an issue either. I know, a small detail, but one that still gets me excited).

After removing all of the hardware with the ol' Ryobi (power tools make this girl happy) *Tim the Tool man grunt*
...aaand arrange the hardware in labelled baggies like a psycho (I swear it looked like a murder scene)
I primed it with Zinsser's Cover Stain (which I will never do again indoors. Why I used an oil based primer indoors and kill 90% of my brain cells? I don't know...)
First I primed in the edges, then used a foam roller brush.
After feeling woozy from the oil-based primer, I decided to take a short cut. I got Behr's Paint & Primer in Gallery White.
The colour isn't pure ultra white, but it's a warmer white... just what I wanted to match the classic brass handles.
There was something I noticed after my third coat! The drawer fronts started seeping a yellowy liquid (can you see it??? Spots were showing up everywhere!)
All I did was broke out the Zinsser again, and did some spot treatments on top of my latex paint. I just put another finishing coat of the latex and it worked great.
The Final Results:
a thrift store bowl & my gold bowl from here
Arrangement #1
I'm already on the lookout for a nice Greek key mirror or stunning piece of art to occupy the space on the wall.

My husbands doing.
Either way, me thinks shopping for credenza shtuffs is in order :)
Aaannd, I had a chance to stop on over to Home Sense, and lookit what I came across!
so similiar, except with a hefty price tag!
Even more of a reason to do the credenza happy dance~!
Want more pictures? You got it!
the innards are pretty too! (I left them the natural wood, as it was too pretty to completely cover)
