ready for 2012!

As the holiday season is slowing to a halt and the reality settles in of how overstuffed our bellies are, how many wonderful friends and family we managed to catch up with and how excited we are to face the new year head on, I am overwhelmed with thankfulness of how amazing this past year was & excited for what the future brings.

My husband managed to surprise me on Christmas morning with a little contraption for blogging bliss...

I am probably the least knowledgeable person on the planet when it comes to photography, so I'm glad he got me a camera that has enough bells n' whistles to learn about for the next year or so! :)

That means, no more depending on my iphone camera (which up until now, all photos in my posts have been taken with).

I tried taking a couple of shots with the new camera on our spontaneous trip to Ottawa...

don't let her cuteness fool you. She managed to gnaw her leash in two pieces & shred the red pom pom on her sweater (can you see the remains?)... all while sitting innocently in her crate.

We decided to drive the longer route to Ottawa through Peterborough, and it was definitely scenic! These not-so-great-quality photos of the snow on the naked trees & evergreens were just snippets of what we zipped past on our 6 hour drive.

one of my favourite pictures of the snow... I miss those days when Christmases in Toronto were actually white...

one of the most scrumptious meals we had at one of the least expected diners on the way through Peterborough. It was seemingly in the middle of nowhere, but the chef was apparently well known in Toronto (the food was amazing!)

Once in Ottawa, we hit up the byward market (a must-see for any visitor). It provided us with amazing international fare, but also refuge from the -20 degree weather! Way too cold in my mind for a skate on the canal!

sweaty cheese anyone? Gotta love a good burger with a steamy poutine...

on our way back, we took a random detour off the highway for gas, but ended up stumbling upon one of the most delicious shawarma restaurants we ever visited. They were called Cosmo (unfortunately they don't have a site I could link up), and they are definitely on our must list for Ottawa!

After our trip, we ended the year with having friends over for bubbly, boardgames, the countdown & a slumber party (haven't had one in ages, and definitely need to have them more often!)

Hope you had a safe & wonderful holiday! I just gotta say that I have many projects a'brewin, so I'm excited to share in the posts to come!

Happy New Year!

  3. awwww, it looks like you guys had fun on your trip! enjoy it while you can (before kid/kids)! It's so sweet that Al surprised you with a trip AND a SLR?!? wow!
I've taken a photography course at Sheridan College when we purchased our own SLR. Midway to the course, the baby wanted to come out, so I wasn't able to finish the class. However, I've done my first assignment and if you ever take this class, you can take my assignment and use it. :)
AND... why wasn't I invited to your slumber party?? :)
John spent the new years count down by himself, while watching me in my dream land. I think I slept around 10 or 11 pm. :(
As for dinner get together, you guys come over and I'll (try to) make something yummy. let me know what works for you and we'll see if it works for us.
